What is Qi Gong?
Qi Gong means “enhanced energy” or “life energy cultivation” and is known in the West as a meditative relaxation practice, consisting of movements, breathing exercises, self-massage and meditation. Qi Gong can be learned at any age and is suitable for people in almost any state of health.
Many Qi Gong exercises are more than 2000 years old and are based primarily on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and in a broader sense, the philosophical schools of Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian. Qi Gong is a medical practice of aligning the body, breath and mind for health as well as a martial arts training (the latter also includes Tai Chi.)
How can I learn Qi Gong?
Easy! Qi Gong can be learned at any age and practially any level of health.
We practice Tai Chi Qi Gong (shibashi) as a basic exercise in all of our Qi Gong classes. These exercises are based upon the movements from the Tai Chi Chuan (Empty Fist) Form, but are simpler and often performed without complex steps. Nonetheless, they gently move your entire spine and are also a simple way to increase your coordination.
